Off-road desert racer and back-to-back Best In The Desert Class 1000 Champion Conner McMullen has stepped up in a big way. Helping McMullen climb the ladder is Brenthel Industries with their driver development program. In only his second time ever racing a 6100 truck, Conner has captured his first class win during the Parker 425 opening round of the 2022 BITD series.
The McMullen’s own a reputation as winning buggy drivers, with young Conner following his father Kevin McMullen’s path. Conner has been a hard charger with back-to-back BITD Class 1000 Championships during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. He stepped up in 2021 to the 6200 division, but that was not good enough. McMullen got the keys to a brand new Brenthel Industries state-of-the-art 6100 with zero miles and proceeded to qualify 4th fastest for the 2022 Parker 425. This primed the pump for Conner and set him up for victory.
”We qualified 4th in this brand new truck,” explained Conner. “I was very conservative during qualifying as well as during the race because I have never driven this vehicle before.”
“Despite that, we took the win! This truck was brand new right off the table, never even in the dirt before qualifying. This proves that Brenthel race trucks are capable of winning completely untested.”
The Parker 425 is a fan and racer favorite. This year’s event consisted of a three-lap course running backwards from the traditional route. There were 16 starters and 12 finishers in the 6100 division, which is considered one of the most competitive in all of desert racing. McMullen’s finishing time on course in the #6173 Brenthel Industries truck was 5 Hours, 53 Minutes, and 9.094 seconds.
“It was a solid run,” McMullen continued. ” We had no flats. The team was solid. Every time we came in for fuel, the pit crew was fast. On the second lap, the tire change was fast. Everything was just so consistent. This Brenthel Industries truck took a beating, yet here we are on top of the box!”
Conner went on. “Thank you to the Brenthel Brothers for giving me this opportunity. I look forward to more races and going for the win. I want to thank my mom, my dad, Kevin McMullen Racing, Brenthel Industries for an amazing truck, King Shocks, Method Race Wheels, BFGoodrich Tires, Best In The Desert, and everyone else that helped us get here.”
