Caliente, NV
The Southern Nevada Off Road Enthusiasts (SNORE) racing organization tipped their hat as the first outfit to bring back desert racing competition since the COVID lockdown. The effort paid off big with a sizeable field of 138 entries pre-registered for the SkullRush 250 hosted in Caliente, Nevada, on May 30th. Brenthel Industries had a good showing by way of two of the Gen 3 6100 “Spec Trophy Trucks” finishing on the podium with Robert Malone in 2nd place, and Trevor Harvey in 3rd.
Situated about 180 miles north of Las Vegas, Caliente; a historic railroad town that offers a high-desert climate with mountainous terrain features. SNORE designated a racecourse approximately 63 miles long consisting of 4 laps and about a 250-mile race through tight twisty back mountain trails, water crossings, railroad crossings, bridge crossings, and unique unspoiled wilderness.
The race itself challenged competitors with several going off track, overshooting turns, tricky passing, and more than a few mechanical failures. Brenthel Industries Spec Trophy Trucks chewed through the difficult terrain and persevered for a tremendous double podium finish.
Robert Malone, in the #6137 Brenthel Spec TT, stayed consistent on his pace and managed a 2nd place finish with a total time on the course of 5 Hours, 44 Minutes, and 46.690 Seconds.
Robert Malone reported, “It was great to get back to racing and participate in the Skull Rush 250. This was my first time running this event, so having the pre-run (a hosted Fun Run & BBQ on Friday) was a great opportunity to see the track. The racecourse provided several different challenges from the pine trees, to the notorious bridge crossings. Passing was difficult with several narrow stretches and bottlenecks as the racecourse took its toll with accidents and mechanical issues for several teams. I want to give our pit crew a huge thanks as we were able to have fast, flawless pit stops.”
Malone continued, “It was a great weekend. Our Brenthel Industries Gen 3 ran great with zero issues and got us on the podium! We are looking forward to running the Best In The Desert Silver State 300 in a few weeks.”
In the #6157 Brenthel Spec TT, Trevor Harvey defied several challenges and grabbed a 3rd place finish in 5 Hours 59 Minutes and 18.907 Seconds.
“We started the race in the back of the pack and were eating dust the entire first lap,” stated Trevor. “By the end of the first lap, I was able to charge to 2nd place trailing only 1 minute behind the leader. For Lap 2, everything was going smoothly until we started having mechanical power issues. We pulled into the pits for 15 minutes, trying to sort everything out and get the brake pressure back up. While in the pits, the whole 6100 field went by. Once we were able to get back onto the track, I had to drive hard to pass the field again and regain the lost positions. We worked our way through the dust back into 3rd place position.”
Harvey went on. “On the 4th lap, I was chasing down 1st and 2nd place, but we ran out of time. We got held up behind a flipped car which slowed us down another five minutes. We ended the day with a solid and well-earned 3rd place podium finish. It was a battle in the dust all day, but we had fun in the new truck! The truck is a beast that handles big holes like they were not even there. It was well worth the upgrade from our Gen2 to the Brenthel Industries Gen3. I am very impressed and recognize the big improvements.”
