Brenthel Industries, builders of winning Spec Trophy Trucks (6100) can add another victory on the 2020 Best In The Desert (BITD) Racing Series, making it 2 for 2 on the season so far. Kyle Craft, Driver of Record in the #6102, & James Dean split the weekend up to take down the competition at the King Shocks Laughlin Desert Classic.
The 6100 division featured the most heated on course battles throughout the two days of racing, with 29 competitors taking the green flag. Craft qualified and then started the race on Day 1 while Dean made it to the checkers for a come from behind victory and the quickest on course time of 2 Hours 17 Minutes and 21.699 Seconds. The event consisted of 2 days of racing, with four laps each day, around a 17-mile course. Dean scored the fastest lap of the division on Lap 1 of Day 2 with a blistering pace of 15 Minutes and 35.02 Seconds.
It was a stacked field and the opposition was quite evenly matched with 2nd place coming up just 22 Seconds short. In the end, the Brenthel Industries #6102 Gen3 Class 6100 had what it took to come out on top. Kyle recounts the effort, “We started with an awful qualifying run. I made a rookie mistake in qualifying and made the car way too light, so it was uncontrollable and ended up 15th. Race day, I knew I had to run a hard yet conservative pace to give James (Dean) the best chance possible to put the car on the box. The rain made track conditions very tough with water in some spots up to 3 feet deep. Luckily, we had our visors coated with Cruz Armor to resist the mud and water with zero vision issues and I was able to run down most of my competitors with ease.”
Craft continued, “I made up eight spots on day one, putting James in the 4th row and 7th position with a perfect truck to do what he does best. James battled his way through the entire field, making it all the way 1st place physical and then proceeded to make up the difference in time from the day before to give us the overall win. The team killed it. I have to give special thanks to my dad Mike Craft for putting together the master plan, and our navigator Jordan Dean for keeping us in the game both days with perfect calls and positive energy. Thank you to everyone who helps us and I’m glad we got to show what we are capable of.”
James Dean shared, “Man what a race! We started the week with an excellent test session with Ricky Johnson SDG Suspension that got us feeling on top! The Brenthel Gen3 is an amazing and greatly designed truck! It has a beautiful look to it and it works just as good as it looks. Jordan and Jonathan really stepped up the game from the previous models and have had results showing that the Gen3 can be a top competing truck! They stepped out of the box with their new billet trailing arms and hit a home run and built a strong supporting truck that can get put through the ringer and come out still swinging! Great job to Brenthel on making such an amazing truck!”
Jonathan Brenthel, purveyor of Brenthel Industries, congratulated the duo on the latest victory, “Nice job to Kyle Craft & James Dean for pulling off the win in the ultra-competitive 6100 class and showing what that Gen3 Brenthel Spec Trophy Truck can do. Great teamwork, thanks for making us proud!!”
