Parker, AZ
A brutal race at the Best In The Desert series season opener in Parker, Arizona resulted in great results for Brenthel Industries. Brenthel Trucks landed on the podium in the 6100 class, and in 7200. The Brenthel 6100 shop truck driven by Jordan Brenthel had a solid top ten finish. It was a huge accomplishment just to finish this race. The deep sand, fast fire roads, and never ending rocks are always punishing in Parker.
This year’s race had another variable that made for several crashes and a lot of off course excursions; blinding dust. The dry conditions created a thick layer of dust over the entire course that had drivers trusting their navigators, and the GPS, to keep them out of trouble. Each of the three laps saw the course get progressively rougher; all while the sun dropped over the horizon. The challenging conditions went from back-lit dust on lap 2, to struggling with dust in the darkness on the final lap. Drivers had to go fast without crashing as the terrain threw everything at them.
In the 6100 class, Jordan Brenthel and Bobby Pecoy started back in 18th and 19th place respectively. They would have a huge challenge to get to the front with so much dust on the course. There are only a couple ways to get through that many trucks to the top ten. You outlast them, outpace them, or outsmart them. It’s usually a combination of all three. Pecoy and Mike Craft made it all the way to the podium with a second place finish.
They caught and passed many trucks that started out front in clean air. Jordan Brenthel did the same, finishing in 6th place. He ran trouble free with not even a flat tire. “It felt great to complete such a rough course with a solid top ten finish,” said Jordan Brenthel, “Everyone wants to win, but consistency is what wins championships. It was the first race of the season so it was a yardstick to measure the competition. Our team feels great that we are starting the season with points in the bank.”
Brenthel racer Glen Towers also landed on the podium in second place. Towers comes all the way from Australia to compete in the Best In The Desert series. He relies on Brenthel Industries to give him a truck that is a solid contender. Despite some of the most challenging conditions possible, Towers and his co-driver had to learn how to use a GPS for navigation during the race. “That was the most brutal race I have ever competed in,” said Towers, “We have nothing like that back in Australia. Josh my navigator killed it considering it was his first time using a GPS and our first time racing at night. The entire Brenthel crew was awesome. We can’t wait to come back over for the Mint 400 and fly the Aussie and Brenthel flags again.”
