Brenthel Racer Jon Lee Takes Two Championships In 2014

When Jon Lee and crew chief Mark Johnson had an idea to build a lightweight single seat class 7200 truck that was a little out of the box, they knew just who to call. They contacted Brenthel Industries with their idea and the response was, “Let’s do it.” The result is a center cockpit truck that Jon says drives like a dirt bike. The truck is lightweight and has great balance; it’s also very fast.


Jon Lee used that speed to take points championships in both the MORE and SNORE desert racing series in 2014. “We had a plan to win a championship this year when we approached Brenthel,” says Jon, They were very receptive to our plan and were willing to work with us. I think we won every race but Rage, (SNORE’s Rage at the River); we had a really good year. The ergonomics in the cockpit are awesome. It’s easy throwing the truck around and putting it right where you want it. If you want to get on top of the whoops, just wick it up and you are there; it’s a very fun truck to drive.”

With the MORE series championship already in hand, Jon Lee and crew lined up to race at the SNORE series finale, Rage at the River, (RATR). RATR is a two day heat race event with a short course infield section and open desert making up the course. Jon won Saturday’s heat easily but hit a snag on Sunday. “I hit one of those huge holes in the desert wrong, I was on the brakes,” says Jon, “It blew a power steering hose. The crew did a quick patch job and got me back out but it didn’t hold. We just pulled the belt and I drove the last lap with no power steering.” Despite the hose issue, Jon finished third place on the weekend with more than enough points to secure the SNORE class 7 points championship.


Jon Lee’s pair of 7200 class points championships complement Jordan Brenthel’s Best In The Desert series title to give Brenthel three 7200 class championships in 2014! It highlights the strength of their design but also shows the versatility they have at their disposal. Their 7200 truck design can be had in a rear engine/transaxle layout with either a single seat or dual seat cockpit. It is also available as the more conventional front engine, rear live axle dual seat cockpit layout. All three designs have been proven to be highly competitive.
